If my recollection is correct they said that they would keep the Principal position if the budget passed and would cut it, if the taxpayers rejected the budget and they had to make deeper cuts. The taxpayers passed the budget, maybe to show support for a high school Principal position. Freshman sports does not matter. All the other schools cut freshman sports, so there are no teams for Audubon to play. Don't you pay attention to what goes on elsewhere? spin it. But your recollection is wrong. These positions/programs were cut and more cuts were to happen if the budget was rejected. It's why the board terminated the position and now quietly rehired. And there are plenty of local schools with frosh programs. . . . perhaps they didn't feel the need for a half dozen highly paid principals, vice-principals, and supers for a few hundred kids. The disconnect is I pay attention to what goes on and not blindly sucked into the school's propaganda. Funny how "its for the children" equates to cutting programs and instituting new activity fees in order to keep $135,000 jobs. A more appropriate screen name would be "continue the bloat; screw the kids." Do you mind putting up a link to the budget that we voted on that does not have a High School principal listed in it. Because I think you are flat out wrong. I think that we went through this drill before and you or one of your associates was tossing out misinformation then, like stating the Superintendent was working and collecting a pension at the same time. I also seem to remember the Superintendent offering to do two jobs and serve as the HS Principal, as well. But, I guess the voters thought that was not needed since they gave the Board enough money to pay a Principal. Also, do you want to list some of those many schools that still have freshman sports. No schools we normally play do, since the entire Colonial Conference canceled Freshman sports. Of course, none of this matters since the budget passed and the School Board can make any adjustments they want as long as they don't go over budget.

The budget letter was taken off the district website shortly after the vote. . . wonder why? I have hard copy. The board is certainly free to make adjustments; only question is whether they were deceptive in screaming the sky's falling and outlining all the cuts they were forced to make. . . . and telling us more draconian cuts were coming if the budget failed. End result: they've cut frosh sports and instituted new activity fees for everything while rehiring a fifth $100,00++ admin. And you think this is good for the kids. Only one sucking from the taxpayer, and damn the kids can see this as good.

I was told, my kids said it was announced at school, he was leaving. . . why are we sure this isn't still true?

Only one sucking from the taxpayer, and damn the kids can see this as good. Every school Board told their voters that the budgets they were presenting would have terrible consequences and staff would laid off and it would be even worse if the budgets failed. Most towns voted down their budgets. Almost every town cut freshman sports and instituted activity fees. Are you saying that the Audubon voters were a bunch of fools and easily tricked? Would everything be OK with you if they just did not hire that administrator you talk about. The budget passed by almost a 20% margin Yes 850 59.07% - No 589 40.93% Most people in town must be happy with the result.

Most people in town must be happy with the result. You're missing the point. Heck, I'm happy with the end result. The question is did voters go into the booth thinking that the school was making drastic cuts and would be making even more if the budget failed as we were told? The voters were explicitly told several positions/programs were cut and things were dire. More would be cut if budget failed. Truth is, virtually no significant job loss (good thing) but there are significant program cuts and added fees. This raises serious credibility issues. . . and the priorities of the district. The whole hoopla turns out to have been nothing but a "the sky is falling" scare tactic. It's about jobs; not kids. And what's this about guys getting two pensions?

Sacrifices all over. union reported their concelation to the Retrospect while this was fresh news. Sacrifices were made in deference to the grace of the taxpayer asking for and receiving 4%, the entire staff is conceding a two-day furlough (all told from all staff a give-back of over $400,000) All jobs are back, BECAUSE of the sacrifices all around students, townspeople, staff and admin. Please remember this next April.

Would have been cuts after the vote had the union not made concessions

A reliable source in Mount Ephraim said he heard Tassi was retiring in July! And we are going to merge with Mount Ephraim Police. Maybe Tassi plans on retiring and running for mayor. Hey with all this transparency why is there no video of the meetings lately. Maybe everyone is at the gym on the mayors fitness program.

Please remember this next April. Thanks. . . this explains much. That said, and as I'd reported, the entire budget presented to the residents; the letters and town meetings asking for our votes and explaining the cuts was thrown out and an entirely new solution drawn up and silently instituted. Deception is the word that comes to mind. And amusement at how all this money miraculously appears (at the expense of kids) when an admin job may get cut. I've seen nothing official re: any furlough -- and after what's occurred will never believe it until I do. Still end result; kids give up frosh sports -- 1/4+ of HS sports; perhaps this gives the athletic director time for a day off. 6 full time principals for a small school; 1/4 of sports cut; parents paying the full tax increase permitted by the state and this new, "hidden" tax of activity fees. To me, the parents and kids took it on the chin. Save me the sob story of a hugely bloated admin that may get a day off. And as a voter who has never voted against the school, I will remember next April during the yearly whine. This has been an eye opening experience at what the board thinks is important.

Maybe if we changed job titles that would help Name | Current Title | New Title | Mr. John H Ross | Principal | Principal High School | Mr. Robert Buchs | Vice Principal | Assistant Principal High School | Mr. Frank Corley | Vice Principal | Principal Junior High | Mrs. Suzanne McKenna | Assistant Principal/ Student Personnel Services | Director of Student Personnel Services | Mrs. Donna Covely | Assistant Principal / Athletic Director | Athletic Director | Dr. Carleene Slowik | Principal Haviland | Principal Haviland | Theodore W. Clarke, Jr | Principal Mansion | Principal Mansion |

Now you only have one principal for each school and one assistant principal. Feel better?

Make up titles, suck more from each taxpayer and cut kid's programs. So much for the promised combined super/principal position with it's enormous savings to the taxpayer. Or money that could be put into kids programs - sports, AP classes, clubs, etc. (Or even ending the shifting of kid's local grade schools with the corresponding burden to parents and kids.) Anything to save the bloat. I take comfort in that you may have come around to the realization they deceived you in the vote. Question is do you care; it sounds as though such deception personally benefits you. If I was tied to the school gravy train and not to kids I'd be in your corner.
Look it's your spin or mine. You say we have a small school with 6 principals. I counted 7 titles with the word "principal" somewhere in them. I say we have 4 schools (high school, junior high, and two elementary schools). Traditionally almost everywhere in this country each school has a principal, That accounts for 4 of your principals. Most High Schools have an Assistant principal - that takes care of 5 principals. In most places the Athletic Director and Student Services person does not have the title of "Principal", so let's get rid of titles that really don't apply to people who are not managing entire schools. As far as a "small school" our high school is about the same size as Collingswood, Haddonfield, Haddon Township and Haddon Heights. They all have between 900 and 1,000 students. None of them are small schools. Bottom line, we have a principal for each school like most other school systems around the country. We don't have 6 principals all working in one "small" school.

Athletic Director gets a principals salary WTF? As for the new commish's they haven't done crap. They didn't make any significant cuts and raised our taxes while adding a stupid second sewer tax.
Chris Tassi is laughing his @ss off, John Ward is making the last group look pretty damn good. They actually cut more before they left then these new guys.
It's business as usual. Chief of police gets a fat salary and works 1-2 days a week for 3 hours, everyone has a car, etc etc
I'm betting Wardy in the end will be viewed worst then Jackie Boy Coyle.
Look for a 3 Tassi ticket in 2013 Tom will be retired by then, Chris will snap back and add on another brother.

I have to agree with you. Reading through this thread it becomes apparent what the 'real' issue for the other poster is. Their little Johnny is losing freshman sports and they have to pay an activity fee. Okay, you don't like it...we heard ya.
