Audubon Declares Storm Emergency Starting 4 PM Sunday
Staff
The Audubon Board of Commissioners, along with our office of emergency management, has declared a local disaster emergency starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2012.
Audubon encourages all residents to shelter in place except those where a situational decision to evacuate has been deemed necessary.
The best time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens and we encourage all our residents to be ready in the event that the storm brings extensive damage to our region. Please take the following actions to prepare for the storm and its aftermath:
• remove all lawn furniture, decorations, and loose items around your property
• store flashlights, with batteries, and candles. Please do not place candles near any combustible items such as curtains and tablecloths
• have emergency contact numbers with you
• make sure you have a supply of nonperishable food and water
• don't forget to plan for family pets
• include prescription medications, baby supplies, and additional items for specific medical needs
• make sure you have a cellphone car charger
They are also asking all residents not to rake leaves into the street pending this storm so that we may keep our storm drains cleared.
Additionally, in order that public works and emergency responders can respond in a timely manner we are prohibiting commercial and recreational trailers and equipment from being parked on borough streets during this emergency. Furthermore, they are requesting that private vehicles be relocated to driveways and public parking areas if possible. The Audubon Police Department has the specific authority to remove any vehicles, trailers, or equipment at the owners' expense.
Audubon expects that normal trash pickup will take place on Monday morning. However, they are suspending trash collection on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Please do not put your trash at the curb for Tuesday. The borough will provide more information on trash collection as it becomes available.
