Today, a woman takes a trip down memory lane in South Camden. Living in our South Camden home in the 1940s and ’50s was exciting for a youngster like me. There were always long walks to neighboring areas. I remember so well how exciting it was when the carnival came each summer down our street to the large area of the Camden Brewery. That was the highlight of our summer. We didn’t have much money to spend, but we rode the merry-go-round until we became very dizzy. Sacred Heart Church held dances for the youth, as did the Episcopalian church at Broadway and Viola. Of course we also had the Star Theatre. For about a quarter, you could view a double feature and have money left over for candy. Those times were great growing up in South Camden.
