Ada P. Miller
Ada P. Miller, formerly Penny, 87, of Audubon, died peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 after a brief illness.
She grew up in Mount Ephraim and Camden, attended the Clara S. Burrough Junior High School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1946. She loved to sing, and as a child, often performed with her siblings under the stage name “Pennys from Heaven.” She moved to Audubon in the early 1960s.
As a young woman, Ada worked at RCA in Gloucester and later, worked part-time at McGraw Joseph Mortgage Company in Audubon. For more than 20 years, until her retirement in 2008, she worked for the Camden County Probation Department. She loved going on camping trips while raising her children. In later years, she and her husband enjoyed spending time with a large, loving extended family at Country Oaks Campground in Dorothy, NJ.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry T.; daughters Lynne Albert of Perkasie, Pa., Donna Redfield (Skip) of Barnsboro; son John (Susan) of Medford; sisters Catherine Kyler, Jeanette Caldwell and Joan Crea, all of Audubon, grandchildren Jessica Pyryt, Kimberly Toutkoushian, Matthew Miller, Michael Fiolo-Miller, Kaitlin Haziza, Brian Albert, Allison Redfield, Jennifer Redfield, Jaclyn Tumaian and Tanya Tumaian; great grandchildren Taylor and Lily Toutkoushian. She is also survived by Cindy Tumaian of Mount Laurel, who was like a daughter-in-law to her, and her lifelong friend Norma Albinson of Audubon. She is predeceased by parents Walter and Helen Penny; a brother Walter Penny; a sister Helen Schafer; and her beloved son, Thomas.
Visitations will be on Sunday, January 11, 4-6pm and 10-11am on Monday, January 12 at the DuBois Funeral Home, 700 S. White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ 08106. Funeral services will be at 11am on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Park in Pennsauken.
Ada had a generous spirit and encouraged that in her children and grandchildren: Each Christmas, she held a family raffle and the winner of “The Jesus Gift” was given a small ornament along with money and instructions to spend it on someone in need. In that spirit, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice, or to the Animal Orphanage, 419 Cooper Road, Voorhees, NJ 08043.
