Thank you ever so much! In the 50's, while living on the East Side of Audubon, it was known as Jarvis'! When, we used to go play over there in the woods and around the house ~ it didn't seem to be occupied at all! I remember nice "old men" sitting around outside (drinking beer?) and I can almost remember( ?) going up to the top and looking out the windows in all directions!!! ? There's no mention of the swimming "hole", but I do remember the dried/baked clay and an old wooden diving board! They don't mention the pigs either! I remember garbage used to be collected separately from trash and the garbage ended up at Jarvis'!!!! If the wind blew in our "direction" it would reek throughout the neighborhood! Looking back now? I wonder? Were Audubon's "gullies" the end of the beautiful Jarvis' streams mentioned in the "historical" Or? Could the gully have been the Farm's "sewer" ?? Soooooooooooooooooooo, along with the 1800s memories, some of us have our own! Again, thank you!

Thanks mtephraimneighbor and ForeverThere for great posts. ForeverThere, do you remember the Jarvis's had a road stand on Cuthbert Blvd. and sold vegetables? It would be right at the corner where the bank now stands. The house that mtephraimneighbor sent from that website looks exactly like I remember it when I was a kid.

No..........don't remember any fruit stand! Didn't cook back then, still don't know how to cook ~ so I'm not acquainted with natural foods . . . only the stuff that can be heated/zapped in the microwave! I remember though, my parents stopping on the way to and from Wildwood, for food "stuff". Probably at the Berlin Auction too? www.berlinfarmersmarket.com/

Yes, I've been to Berlin Farmer's Market since when I was young too. I never knew they had a website. Thanks for posting it!

Many thanks, ForeverThere. Yes, that brings back memories for me. Thanks for posting it. A friend of mine recently sent a video that you might enjoy. I've never seen before I received it a couple of days ago. I am new to posting, so I hope it comes through. Thanks again. This is a Mid-Fifties slice of life and landscape in Philadelphia and its surrounding towns. With excellent color footage of downtown scenes, neighborhoods, the Mummers Parade, Levittown, factories in Camden, New Jersey, and many other subjects that can no longer be seen. www.archive.org/details/Miracleo1955

ForeverThere; You mentioned, "The Gulley" behind the Jarvis Farm as being possibly their sewer system. I always heard that The Gully; which runs from Haddonfield to Westville, was part of a proposed railroad system called the, "Haddonfield-Westville Cutoff." I searched some sights and found one that sort of explains this. There are a lot of dates to go through, but I direct your attention to two. One on this page is "January 2006," and the other is "December 2008," which explains that the railroad was abandoned. I believe this explains The Gully. I hope this comes through. PSE&G now controls the land which cuts through the shopping center. www.sjrail.com/wiki/index.php/WJ%26S_Timeline_1836_-_1932

ForeverThere; I meant the dates to say, "January 1906," and the other to be, "December 1908." Please forgive my mistake of the centuries! I knew you would know what I meant.

I did a mapquest and The Gulleys mentioned in The Retrospect are not Audubon's Gulleys!
The Gulleys in my mind's eye are the one sort of running parallel to Merchant Street, just in Audubon.

I did a mapquest and The Gulleys mentioned in The Retrospect are not Audubon's Gulleys! The Gulleys in my mind's eye are the one sort of running parallel to Merchant Street, just in Audubon. It's the same Gulley. It runs through that area which buts up against the Van Sciver tract, then behind Haddon Hills and all the way across Park/West End Ave up past Westmont ave and goes to the Rail Road tracks in Haddonfield. Use the Google map set to satellite and you can see the path from all the way from Gloucester City to Haddonfield maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=08106&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=40.732051,92.724609&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Audubon,+Camden,+New+Jersey+08106&ll=39.89745,-75.062523&spn=0.001216,0.003852&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=39.897372,-75.062474&panoid=tpjQ3DTDvxeEgdiXswxz4g&cbp=12,131.29,,0,5

ForeverThere; yes, as far as I know, Mr. Gatto is correct about the gulley. It runs through several towns, and can be traced as Mr. Gatto said. I am doing a little bit more research since I received word from a very elderly resident who told me that this particular railway was not planned as that website I sent said, to avoid Camden City; rather; the resident said it was originally planned as some sort of cooperative between some manufacturing concerns in Haddonfield who needed access to the Delaware River for shipping purposes, which is why it was planned to go to Westville, with its access to the river. I will report back when I find anything more conclusive. The resident told me all those plans fell through, which is why the railway project was subsequently abandoned.
