Back in the 50s/60s before the refineries HAD TO PAY big buck$ because of air polution ~ horrible odors would be very common ~ from Paulsboro and surrounding areas and from South Philadelphia! We all knew what it was! There was no panic, no frantic phone calls and no press! Just a fact of life........... Opppps ...I have terrible gas

However, I'm also not a big baby that thinks 'Uncle Obama' (i.e., the government) has to penalize a business for every little inconvenience. You may want the government to wipe your @ss at every step, but I don't. What ya wanna do, fine them $1 million for a stench? Yeah, I know, they have deep pockets, why not pick them, right? Sheesh, what is happening to America?

Hey stevemcgarrett!
Thanks for your reply to Vince, I couldn't have written it better!
and, since I'm usually the one to put the names for the obituaries, I don't know Vince's real name, so that's one list I won't be adding his name for inclusion!

I read the obituaries every morning and if I don't see my name it is going to be a good day.

When big business buys the atmosphere, they can do anything they want with it. Until then, they can restrain the stench of their manufacturing processes to the property they own. I wish "Uncle George Bush" paid more attention to regulating banks and the stock market. Maybe we would not be $ trillions in debt bailing them out and wiping their asses. Borrow my money, stink up my house and then give yourself a big fat bonus with my money. Sheesh, what happened to America?

Vince watch the video on u-tube (barney frank Fannie Mae) you will learn George did have concerns over the economy. I am sure that George Bush had some concerns over the economy. He asked congress to pass TARP legislation to bail out private companies. Virtually no Republicans supported him and the legislation was passed by a Democratic Congress. I am less worried about what Barney Frank said about Fanny May than what a stock market crash did to my 401K. I tend to deal in reality -- Fanny May and Freddie Mack did not crash the economy. It was the unregulated practices of major commercial financial institutions that sold "wind pies" and "air cakes" to each other, along with manufacturers who made more profits by outsourcing work overseas, automakers who built cars nobody wanted to buy and an inflated real estate market dependent on balloon mortgages to fulfill the American dream of owning your own home. I always wanted to be able to afford to own "Blue Chip" stocks like General Motors, I guess now I own GM, like it or not.

I thought you were interested in the facts. I am, lay out the facts as you see them. Your point of view can be the beginning of a discussion. That's what this board is supposed to be - information, exchange of ideas and debate. Everything that happens in Washington trickles down and affects the people of Audubon in varying and unique ways.

If you want a more balanced view of what happened, check out Barney Frank like the other poster suggested. Better yet, fine the big banks (including many banks that DID NOT TAKE A DIME) like our socialist uncle wants to do, then scratch your head in confusion when NY clears out because these companies took their act overseas because they tired of the hypocrisy. I usually enjoy reading your posts, but you're clueless on this one. Keep taking from the deep pockets. When those pockets leave I guess you can fine the dirt.

Barney Frank does not control the economy. What in particular did he say that you two want to point out? When the big banks move overseas, it's going to be a heck of a trip to the drive-in window to make a deposit. (To my knowledge, two of the largest Banks in the area -Citizens and TD Bank are foreign owned already, what else is new)Over-complicating the financial crisis, not simplifying it is the problem. We are a nation of laws, federal regulation of industry is nothing more than a series of laws that need to be followed by businesses. In my opinion, the crisis is caused by simple "greed", risk taking with other people's money and the average citizen's inability to know when he is getting screwed.

I read the obituaries every morning and if I don't see my name it is going to be a good day. I'm not morbid ~ just realistic! As for your demise (and everyone else's) shouldn't we all live today, as though IT IS the LAST! Should we have a tomorrow, we're lucky!

I was at the Commissioner' meeting because the voters of this town sent a strong message to this new Administration. But they laugh in our face and reappoint David Taraschi as a Zoning Enforcer. The random act of violence at the Acme was a a gang initiation where they chose our town. Why would they leave Camden and come all the way to the Audubon Acme to stab someone?
