I would imagine they are discussing rising costs, and what out contribution will be to offsetting them. Since it is in the discussion phase, I would further imagine there is nothing to report...yet.
Of course if you like, I guess we could ask the town fathers to report every utterance back to us, so we can reuminate on each noun, verb, and pronoun. Or maybe we could wait until there is something definitive to discuss. Then if we don't like it we can get vocal.

While the language of the street sometimes helps to make a point, vulgar name calling has no place in a civil town like ours. I have no desire to ruminate over every noun, verb and pronoun, however, it would be nice to know what the basic deal is. It seems to me that if Audubon has a voice in setting the budget and pays an amount of those expenses proportionate to the population of the three towns that seems like an easy enough deal and a true "shared services" agreement. If not, then we have another one of those half-assed deals like the one with the Audubon Park policing - where someone picks a number out of their rear end and sets fees that way. You don't happen to know what the EMS deal is based on do you?

A school district in our area gives students laptop computers with webcams. Then remotely turns on the webcams while the students are in their own homes and spies on them. Does anyone think it is the role of the school district to monitor people's behavior in the own home? How perverted is this and don't the people in the district who monitor students (their parents, or anyone else in the home) feel it's wrong. Big brother and shades of 1984 School Spies on Students at Home With Webcams"A Philadelphia-area school official confronted a student with photographic evidence that he was doing bad things at home. She got her evidence by activating the webcam on the laptop in his house...."www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35462329

You don't happen to know what the EMS deal is based on do you? Vince my compadre'...... i don't believe there is anything wrong with the ambulance service.. The level of care and response times have been very good and HHEMS is merely opening negotiations a year in advance of the contract expiring. I will tell you this..... HHEMS is looking for more money... The deal Audubon signed with Haddon Hts EMS did not cost Audubon any more money (if so it wasn't much more) than it was already paying for ambulance service. They gave HHEMS an ambulance and old police car as well.. HHEMS needed Audubon's call volume to add to their own but I'm sure it's time for Audubon to pay it's fair share. Audubon pays considerably less than neighboring towns for ambulance service. As of January 1stm Mt Ephraim Ambulance closed down and Barrington now handles Mt. Ephraim in addition to Lawnside and Oaklyn as well.

MEPRI had hoped to get the Audubon contract but they ultimately lost out to Haddon Heights. Although they were able to take over Oaklyn, their call volume was not enough to fund their operation without another town with a large number of billable calls to join with. Bascially they went belly-up and folded. Barrington now is the primary provider for Barrington, Lawnside, Mt. Ephraim and Oaklyn. Haddon Hts has their own town, Audubon and Audubon Park.
Fortunately for us, we have Haddon Heights on Kings Hwy who has served us quite well. Patient billing pretty much funds the bulk of the operation but both Audubon and Haddon Hts should share some costs where appropriate. I'll have the scoop when I can confirm some information.

So, the model for ambulance service has gone from volunteers and residents donations to billable calls paid primarily by insurance companies. Squads with regionalized service and full time paid employees. This dynamic makes sense. Are the regional squads part of the municipal government or independent non-profit organizations? In other words, does the Commissioner of Public Safety have domain over the squads like he does Police and Fire and is tax money involved or do billables cover all the expenses?
